my faMILY'S FIRST AID

FIRST AID:  Emergency care or treatment given to an ill or injured person before regular

                      medical aid can be obtained.

First aid refers to medical attention that is usually administered immediately

after the injury occurs and at the location where it occurred.

MINDSET:   We are our first aid, before the professionals arrive.

"Do what you can, where you are, with what you have and whom you are with."

My name is Jose Tovar. My wife and I are happily married with four boys. I am a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and am a medically retired firefighter paramedic. I began My Family's First Aid because I saw a need in the community. My goal is to share my years of personal and professional experience by helping others to become educated, equipped and trained as their own first aid before the professionals arrive. Too often I have responded to life threatening situations to see family, friends and bystanders simply watching these situations unfold and not taking action. The reasons for them not taking action range from fear, lack of education, equipment and/or training. This lack of action has resulted in more deaths, increased pain and harm to the people involved in these situations. It is my opinion that some of the deaths, pain and harm could have been reduced if only the family, friends and bystanders had the education, equipment and training to be the first aid before the professionals arrived. I believe we are all capable of more, that we should be constantly striving to better ourselves, communities and our nation.

GOOD SAMARITAN LAW

  • Doctrine that applies in all 50 states of the US where an individual is freed from a malpractice suit when he/she treats a person in an emergency.
  • A Good Samaritan is somebody who offers help to a person in need. Ensuring that Good Samaritans are protected from liability claims or legal actions as a result of their assistance is important for ensuring that people are not afraid to render assistance to strangers when required to do so. As a result, many jurisdictions around the world have Good Samaritan laws. These laws remove legal liability and other legal complications from those who attempt to help or rescue a person who is in danger, ill, suffering an emergency, or unconscious.
